The Infamous Pebble Trip

The Arrival — Where the Stories Begin

There are golf trips… and then there are pilgrimages.

Pebble Beach sits in that second category — a place you don’t just play, you experience. Where every hole feels familiar before you’ve even teed it up. Where the ocean isn’t just a backdrop — it’s part of the game, part of the story.

We showed up with one goal:
Play three of the most iconic tracks in the world — Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill, and Pebble Beach Golf Links — and leave with more stories than scorecards.

Spanish Bay — The Warm-Up That Isn’t

Spanish Bay is supposed to be the “easier” one. The opener. The gentle handshake before the main event.

That’s a lie.

It’s links-style, exposed, and when the wind shows up — which it always does — it asks questions you’re not ready to answer. Tight lies, firm fairways, and greens that reward imagination over perfection.

This is where the trip started to take shape.
Low bullets under the wind. Questionable club selections. A few creative interpretations of what actually happened off the tee.

You know…  just some flat out Juicy Lies.

And then there’s the finish — the bagpiper at sunset.
Not a moment. A memory.

Spyglass Hill — Beauty with Teeth

Spyglass doesn’t ease you in.

The opening holes tease you with ocean views that rival Pebble… and then it drags you into the forest and quietly starts taking your lunch money.

Tree-lined. Tight. Demanding.

Every miss is punished. Every good shot feels earned.

This is where the group split into two camps:

  • Those still chasing a score
  • Those fully committed to the "experience"

By the back nine, everyone had crossed over.

Because at Spyglass, survival becomes the goal — and survival always makes for better storytelling.

Pebble Beach — Where Legends Are Created

Then came Pebble.

No buildup needed. No explanation required.

From the first tee, you feel it — the weight of history, the expectation, the quiet understanding that you’re walking the same ground as legends.

And then you hit your first shot… and some of us realize it’s still just golf. One of the boys started Birdie, Birdie. You can't birdie them all, if you don't birdie the first two. Then it happened .... the old Tim Hortons classic ... Double, Double

Unpredictable. Humbling. Perfect.

The stretch from 4 through 10 is as good as it gets anywhere in the world.
Cliffs. Ocean. Wind. Pressure.

And somehow, the game slows down.

You stop chasing perfection.
You start soaking it in.

Because you know — this is what you’ll talk about forever.

The Four-Putt Heard Around Monterey

And then… it happened.

A green that looked innocent.
A first putt that just needed a little touch.
A second that “definitely had a chance.”
A third that just had to drop.

And then… the fourth.

Silence.
Followed by laughter.

Because every great trip needs a moment like that — the kind that immediately earns a nickname, gets retold at dinner, and somehow gets worse (or better) every time it’s told.

“I four putt.”

A statement. A confession. A badge of honour.

The Truth (with a Little Top Spin)

The weather? Perfect.
The courses? Better than advertised.
The golf? …depends who you ask.

But that’s not the point.

This trip wasn’t about scorecards.
It was about moments:

  • The flushed shot you definitely meant to hit
  • The putt that “would’ve dropped” with one more roll
  • The drive that somehow found the fairway (don’t ask how)
  • The four-putt that will never, ever be forgotten

And the stories that followed each one.

Because that’s the thing about places like Pebble —
They don’t just give you memories.

They give you material.

Final Thoughts

Three courses.
Endless coastline.
One historic four-putt.

A handful of rounds we’ll remember differently… every time we tell them.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

Juicy Lies.
Play for the memories.
